Welcome...

My photo
I love to make things! I have no particular talents but always have something crafty on the go. I decided I'd suffered enough craft-blog-envy for a lifetime, so have started my own blog... humble & basic though it may be! We live in a century-old cottage in rural Tasmania and are loving learning how to live with soil on our hands. The goals are to value the simple things and to live consciously & ethically. And,importantly, to also pay our mortgage! Lofty goals indeed... please join me in the challenge!

Photo Pockets for the 'Phamily'...

Inspired once again by a project in Kata Golda's book I've finished three photo pockets for Xmas presents for my mum, Nanna and mother-in-law.

I thought these were a fantastic idea for 2 reasons: I'm pretty hopeless at keeping up to date with getting current photos to my family at the best of times, so this would inspire me to actually physically print some off for them; and secondly all our family live interstate or internationally, so these are going to be easy to post.

In the age of internet and digital prints I find the idea of having something tangible and satisfying to hold while looking at photos appealing and due to the fact that we can print more off so easily, I like the idea that one doesn't have to be so precious when handling the real thing!! So instead of a plastic photo album, the fam can slip this into the handbag to serve as the little brag book!  I might send each of them a CD with the photos on it as well, so they can print off more at their leisure.

My only problem now is I haven't decided which one is going to who yet!! I thought I knew as I was making them, but am having second thoughts....I think the bird one is my favourite. It was an experiment playing with the cooler lemon colour (not a colour I've used much before) and I've been delighted with the result.

How are you going with your Xmas planning?

  5. Beautiful 'pockets', and a great idea. You've inspired me - my family are all interstate and we're staying put this year, so all presents need to be easy to post.

    The bird is particularly lovely.

  8. These are a great idea, especially for our family's older generation who have not joined the 'digital revolution' and don't use computers. The bird is my favourite too.

  9. thats a great idea for OS goodies. They have turned out wonderfully. I'm a bit partial to flowers so i like the yellow blossoms best.
I agree with Dette - the oldies do like a printed piccie.
I see you are working your way through that felt stash ;)
